I want!

but ang mahal!

One fine summer afternoon.

The little things that made my day:

• I've been boycotting my blog for some time now because of my b-o-r-i-n-g template. Given my limited visual skills and patience (!) I'm stuck with my bland and black background. And so... I asked the help of my shabby chic :) seat mate Banana to help me out on the layout. So, she signed up in blogspot so she'll know how to go about designing. Lo and behold, she discovered blogspot's new fun and easy design templates.. In no time, our blogs are sporting new, funky looks. Check out her blog, too!

• Wooow!! Banana and I enjoyed these yummy cupcake treats care of Pike. We had the best flavor!! Something to beat a monotonous and dragging work day jampacked with deadlines!

• Bazzinga!!! We are obsessed with The Big Bang Theory! hahaha Finished watching all 3 seasons in the office with GCT! Something both geeks and non-geeks can agree on! Watch it!! :)

Grey's Land

It was love at first watch.

And the love affair is now on its 6th season run. A relationship that long only means I know perfectly everything there is to know about Grey's Anatomy. Until recently.

Since grade school I was already an avid fan of American series. There's just something about the formula that I find very effective and hypnotizing. The well-written, thought-provoking, laugh-inducing, tear-bearing script that goes perfectly with songs that have ultimately became the soundtrack of my life. Just sitting by the TV and watching each episode is enough to fulfill my day. Think a day with Rory and Lorelai, watching courtside at an OTH game and walking the halls of Constance. It's a habit you can't kick.

Back to Grey's...Katz did this to me. Yes, you, Mana! I remember back in College she just said, "Vips...you should try watching Grey's Anatomy. Grabeee. I know you'll love it." And the rest is TV history. Meredith and Derek shaped my formative years. hahaha! Finally I found other "people" I can relate to regarding my unconventional views on life. No perfect endings. No life-according-to-plan plots. Just the messy, real-life dilemmas. I guessed that's the best part of it. You are presented with human situations you can relate to.

Recently Janie has been my Grey's ka-kwentuhan. It's the only thing that keeps us both sane when work is too much to handle! hehe! Just a month ago, she sent me this link where I can read about what goes on behind every episode as told by the writers. It's heaven. Shonda's heaven. When you think watching the episodes can move you already, wait 'till you start reading the blog. Imagine a room full of writers brainstorming, writing and reading the scripts together. If only I can be part of it kahit one session lang of their writers' table-read.

Hence, I have a new ultimate dream: to be in the same room where people write brilliant, life-changing episodes for a living. Thank you Shonda for an amazing Grey's and giving me a new reason to strive harder. :)

When Kathy Met Howie

These past few weeks, I was really killing myself with ideas on how to amp up my blog life. It seems that my love affair with my blog is seeing its end to the point that I was even considering switching to WordPress just to spice things up. I needed something good - no - great to write about. And my dragging work sched just wouldn't help.

In one of my regular Starbucks escape to work and simply enjoy the steady vibes, I never knew I'll meet one of my super faves in the media industry! I met the one and only Howie Severino. Starstruck na kung starstruck, but I can't deny the fact that meeting him just made my day! :) Not just meet and greet, mind you. I had an actual conversation with one of GMA's most respected journalist. How did I do it?

I interrupted his book reading and went on to introduce myself! (haha! ultimate fan moment!!!). But what the heck, I wouldn't have this chance again in a million year...haha! SO there, I sat beside him and pestered him with my nonsense. The best part was, I find him to be a very engaging conversationalist. Well, how could he not be? He breathes human encounters and fan moments. Nevertheless, it was an OMG experience. Having an actual conversation with Howie Severino just talking about work, writing and the internet as a new media! oh-ha! the level! yaaaaay! So there, not bad for a blog entry :) and of course, no fan moment will be complete without...............an autograph! I swear, I'm a fan. Deal with it. hahaha! :)

Vote-Buying

The clever minds behind the new election 'campaign' for 711 sure know how to market their goods! And of course, GCT can't pass up the chance to 'cast' our votes on the 7-Elections. Kakatuwa! No registration. No hassle. Just buy to vote. So today at lunchtime, we chose our candidate at nag vote-buying kami.

Banana and I got Noynoy and Popach got Gordon. For them, this is the closest thing they can get to voting. HAHA! Di kasi nagpa-register! Booo! At least they were able to vote pa din. To simplify the gimmick, one can simply buy a cup representing a candidate and this would already count as a vote. 711, together with GMA, will tally them based on the sales and post the weekly results for each store. amazing!

Here's our substitute for indelible ink:

Diz iz heat!

In all things weird, our weather definitely tops my list. ANG INIT! At this time of the month it's supposed to be cold and cloudy, instead the calendar skipped 3 months and gave us a may weather (haha! no pun intended) but seriously the heat is enough to knock me out. If there are 3 things you must know about me, these are:

(1) I'm not a morning person
(2) I'm generally moody and
(3) I favor the rain more than the sun 'cept on summer when at the beach. Period.

But on a regular basis I'd rather have raindrops pouring on my head than walking on sunshine :) Call me weird but I think I'm more productive when it's cold and gloomy outside. This part, my mom doesn't understand. She LOVES the sun. While I fervently try to shut the windows of my room, she'll use her "mommy powers" to keep it wide open and let the rays of the sun shine through. That would probably work for me a few light years ago when our weather wasn't this messed up. Clearly, this is payback for misusing our once beautiful planet. Global warming is not hot! As a concerned citizen I'm trying so hard to reduce my carbon footprint with even the smallest things like NOT forgetting to turn off any appliance when i leave my room or supporting environmental efforts like grocery shopping on wednesdays at SM so I can use brown paper bags instead of plastic.

I now believe that small things like this can do wonder. When I was learning these things in grade school, I never imagined I'll go through this in my lifetime. The idea seems unrealistic. Then all of a sudden you realize that the climate has changed and you don't know how to undo it. Please. I need it to be cloudy again so I can function and work.

Setting aside my selfish reasons, I feel more for the agriculture sector who's unsuccessfully battling el nino. Plus, there are also power shortages experienced throughout the country. (Though I'm not sure if that has something to do with el nino or the upcoming elections--in the Philippines, you'll never know.)

We need water. We need cooler weather. We need to do better. Help out.
